Southern Air Holdings has agreed to lease two Boeing 777Fs on an ACMI basis for DHL Express. Southern Air, which forged a partnership with DHL Express in September, will immediately put the aircraft into service upon their March and April 2012 deliveries. “The addition of these aircraft will further enhance the service we provide to our newest client, DHL Express, and further enable our ability to support its environmental objectives, which we share,” Southern Air CEO Daniel McHugh said in a statement. “This is also another important step in Southern Air’s ongoing fleet renewal program, which in addition to the 777s involves the addition of four 747-400s in the first quarter of next year.”Lufthansa will commence service from its Dusseldorf International Airport hub to Narita International Airport on June 1. The route, which will be performed six times per week on Airbus A340-300 aircraft, offers significant trade possibilities, representatives for Lufthansa maintained.FedEx Trade Networks has opened new offices in Johannesburg; Bologna, Italy; and Ankara and Izmir, Turkey. Although representatives for the freight forwarder touted the importance of all the new locations, they said the Johannesburg office is especially significant since it marks FedEx Trade Networks’ entry into the South African market.Qantas resumed its regular flight schedule on October 31 after suspending flights two days prior due to an intense labor dispute with local unions. Qantas CEO Alan Joyce called the resolution “a good outcome” for the Australian flag carrier, which grounded its entire fleet to force government officials to intercede on its behalf.
