According to a press release, the MegaHub consolidates all of DHL Supply Chain’s operations in Hong Kong and provides businesses with increased flexibility and cost efficiencies. Location is another benefit, since the facility is accessible to Hong Kong’s transportation network, including Hong Kong International Airport, and is close to the city’s central business district.
Tom Wong, the company’s managing director for Hong Kong and Macau, said DHL Supply Chain specifically targeted Hong Kong for growth. “The opening of the DHL Supply Chain MegaHub Hong Kong is testament of our commitment to and confidence in the city as one of the world’s primary logistics and distribution centers,” he said in a statement.
“Establishing our new headquarters within this expansive and cutting-edge property will enable us to provide timely service, monitoring and support to our customers,” Wong continued.
The MegaHub isn’t the only North Asian facility DHL Supply Chain has invested in recently, however. Since 2009, the company has forked over €224 million to expand its facilities in North Asia, and DHL executives expect to spend another €300 million by 2015 on this goal.
Deutsche Post DHL CEO Frank Appel explained that Asia is a key region for the company, since it “continues to be one of the most active and dynamic regions in the world economy.” He added that keeping pace with Asia’s necessitates requires an extensive logistical network.
“Both international and local customers require effective and efficient solutions to establish their supply chains in the region, and we are proud to open DHL Supply Chain MegaHub Hong Kong to better serve the market,” Appel said.
