Kalitta Charters II, the Ypsilanti, Mich.-based mid-size group in the Kalitta family of airlines, is in the process of converting a 737-400 passenger aircraft for general cargo purposes.
General Manager Colin Handlon said the aircraft, the first 737-400 in the airline’s fleet, was acquired from Compass Capital Corp. of California.
The conversion is being done by Aeronautical Engineers, Inc., at Dothan Regional Airport in Midland City, Ala.
When asked if this is the beginning of a fleet modernization, Handlon said they will “see how this one goes.”
Kalitta Charters II operates a fleet of nine 727-200Fs and three DC-9s. The other airlines in the group are Kalitta and Kalitta Air. All three airlines are cargo only.
