One would think that Lufthansa Cargo is preparing to conquer the world with all of the new routes and destinations the carrier is adding when its summer schedule kicks in March 27. For starters, a weekly freighter service to Moscow will be added. An MD-11F has already been flying every Monday from Frankfurt to Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport, connecting to Ashbabat and Baku. Lufthansa Cargo will also fly an MD-11F to Doha every Friday, and there will now be a direct flight from Seattle to Frankfurt, every Friday with an AeroLogic 777F. That flight will go on to Los Angeles before returning to Frankfurt.
A B777 will be brought in for flights from Frankfurt to Tokyo and Seoul six times a week, and Beijing four times per week. Future plans call for a daily Frankfurt to Hong Kong flight. An MD-11F will fly to the south coast of China six times a week instead of four, and the frequency to Ho Chi Minh City doubles from one to two weekly services.
That’s not all – belly space will be utilized on many new destinations. Lufthansa has been flying to Panama City using an A340 five times a week since March 2, and will serve San José, California in July. Eurowings long-haul fleet will be available for booking through Lufthansa serving Varadero, Punta Cana and Puerto Plata from Cologne using an A330. Phuket and Bangkok will be added at the end of March, along with Cancun and Mauritius from May, Boston in June and Miami beginning in September. Frequencies to Shanghai will also be increase with Austrian Airlines serving the Chinese metropolis from Vienna five times a week starting in April and then daily in May.
