Belfast Airport Handling plays role in G8 summit

Belfast Airport Handling Limited completed the handling of G8 leaders, VIP staff and support equipment during the G8 summit in Ireland.

Fixed wing aircraft movements totalled more than 50 operations – all of which were provided by BAHL, part of the Heavyweight Air Express Group, over a two-week period.

“This was a long time in the strategic planning, however our management and staff worked tirelessly to deliver a complete service to each G8 member state and their associated support teams. The very high profile of such an event meant that we had to deliver it right first time, and it is testament to our people and investment in resources that we managed to do so,” Jonny McKinney, director of BAHL, said. “During the same period, our normal ramp and cargo operations continued, unaffected by the G8 project. This in itself was a perfect example of the capability of BAHL to be flexible and deliver a first-class service to our customers.”

BAHL offers VIP lounge and handling services for visiting charter operators who use Belfast International Airport.

“The fact that BAHL were chosen to head up the ground handling program for these state visits speaks volumes,” McKinney said.
