Kerry Logistics begins phase two of Chongqing expansion

Kerry Logistics is expanding its Chongqing Logistics Centre to address the region’s vast economic growth, up 16.3 percent in the first quarter of 2011. With the first phase of renovation now complete, the logistics service provider is focusing on phase two of construction, which is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2013.

Phase two of construction will add 62,700 square meters to Chongqing Logistics Centre, encompassing two four-story towers. This space will be utilized primarily for warehousing and value-added services, such as labeling, packing and repacking and vendor-managed inventory, Kerry Logistics officials said.

Edwardo Erni, managing director, Mainland China, points to the myriad benefits of this expansion. “Chongqing is one of the fastest-growing cities in Western China, and we have seen a rapid increase in demand for warehousing and logistics services,” he said in a statement. “We have completed the first phase of the logistics center, with an area of 20,500 square meters in the first quarter of this year.”

The logistics service provider is eying the electronics and high-tech, auto spare parts and telecommunications sectors as key markets for growth.
