An Air China Cargo 777F touched down at Edmonton International Airport (EIA) Sept. 3 to be greeted by a traditional water gun salute, commemorating the carrier’s first scheduled stop at the western Canadian airport. Air China Cargo will serve EIA six times each week, with a Shanghai-Edmonton-Dallas-Edmonton-Shanghai routing.
This is the first freighter route between mainland China and the Canadian province of Alberta, and a key step in connecting the two economies. It’s also the only freighter service between Alberta and Texas.
EIA estimates that this new service will boost the GDP of the region by US$31 million per year. EIA is situated near two business centers – the Nisku Business Park and the Leduc Business Park – which will provide opportunities for cargo businesses to work with Air China Cargo as well. The airport is also near major highways for easy truck transport.
