Boeing delivers first of five 747-8Fs to CargoLogicAir

Boeing and CargoLogicAir took advantage of the Farnborough International Airshow to announce the delivery of the first of five potential 747-8Fs that the U.K. based subsidiary of the Volga-Dnepr Group hopes to receive within its first five years of operations.

CargoLogicAir earned its U.K. Air Operator Certificate early in 2016 and commenced twice-weekly 747-400 ACMI services connecting the U.K., Europe and Africa, as well as air charter services, in February of this year. The all-cargo carrier plans to use a second 747F, scheduled for delivery later this year, to develop its network into North and South America.

At last year’s Farnborough show, Volga-Dnepr signed an MoU with Boeing for 20 such 747s, and the deal was finalized at this year’s event. Thus, the delivery of the fourth jet only two days later – and the first to CargoLogicAir – is part of both an existing agreement and a substantiation of the recent deal.

“Taking delivery of our first Boeing 747-8 Freighter is another important milestone for CargoLogicAir,” said CargoLogicAir’s CEO, Dmitry Grishin. “The -8F is a remarkable aircraft, capable of carrying virtually any cargo, from temperature-sensitive fresh produce and pharmaceuticals to long aerospace and oil-and-gas cargoes through its nose door.” He added that the 747-8 also offers a 16 percent increase in payload size, compared to the747-400s, 137 tonnes.
