Belgium’s Thomas More College and Brussels Airport Company have joined together to expand the college’s “Logistics Management” studies to include airfreight.
Through business internships at BRUcargo, the freight division of Brussels Airport, students will learn about the logistics business in and around the airport. BRUcargo will develop curriculum related to airfreight and develop practical assignments for students, in addition to internships.
“Air cargo is a fascinating sector in motion, but among students is perhaps not the most well-known sector,” said Steven Polmans, head of cargo at Brussels Airport. He added that the airport has seen a strong rise in cargo volumes, 7.4 percent compared to the same month last year, which should increase job demand for BRUcargo.
Geert Strobbe, unit manager of business curriculum at Thomas More College, said the training needs to fit the current and future needs in the field of logistics. Students can graduate with an IATA Dangerous Goods regulations certificate as a result of the program, which makes them more attractive to prospective employers.
