The airlift arranged on behalf of the Red Cross was the first time the new cargo center at Berlin Brandenburg Airport, which is still under construction, has been used for an ad hoc charter project.
More than 45 tonnes of cargo were loaded onto a Lufthansa Cargo MD-11F aircraft for the flight to Amman.
The consignment included vital materials for setting up a field hospital in the Azraq refugee camp in Jordan, which accommodates around 130,000 civilians from the Syrian civil war zone.
“The time-efficient execution of this project is attributed to the good cooperation with our partner Lufthansa Cargo, which allowed the rapid deployment of the aircraft,” Bettina Kaufmann, general manager of Chapman Freeborn Germany, said. “Both companies worked hand-in-hand to deliver the much-needed relief supplies as soon as possible.”
