As 2015 drew to a close, Emirates SkyCargo took care of a massive enterprise on behalf of a Japanese construction company, delivering 84 tonnes of machinery needed to build a bridge over the Nile River, near Jinja, Uganda. The journey began at Tokyo’s Narita Airport and ended in Entebbe. The load also included a winch, a down-the-hole hammer and steel parts for the bridge.
The cable-stayed suspension bridge – currently one of the biggest bridge developments in Central and East Africa – is a joint project by governments of Uganda and Japan. When the bridge is complete, it is expected to improve transportation flows on the Northern Corridor route.
Emirates used one of its 777Fs to complete the job. The carrier has a total of thirteen 777Fs in its fleet.
