Emirates SkyCargo reports 4 percent increase in 2018 traffic

Logistics companies and carriers are beginning to release their end-of-the-year results – one of the first being Dubai-based Emirates SkyCargo, which moved 2.6 million tonnes of cargo during the year, a 4 percent increase over the 2.5 million tonnes it moved in 2017.

One reason for the increase could be the expansion of its global network, with the addition of four new destinations: Maastricht (pictured), Santiago, Stansted and Edinburgh.

Emirates also has been investing in its adherence to quality standards with various initiatives. At the beginning of 2018, it introduced a new pharma corridor program, which now connects 20 pharma stations across its network, including Amsterdam, Brussels, Bengaluru, Cairo, Dublin, Dusseldorf, Hong Kong, Luxembourg, Milan, Rome, Shanghai and Singapore. Over the year, it moved 73,000 tonnes of pharma cargo.

In November, Emirates doubled down on another quality regulation endeavor, announcing plans to implement the Cargo iQ framework – an IATA quality standards program – to more than 160 of its stations across six continents by early 2019.
