RAP e2 container copyAmerican Airlines Cargo has become the first U.S. passenger carrier to receive approval by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for use the RAP e2 cargo containers, made by Envirotainer. The RAP e2 can fit a maximum of five European pallets or four U.S. pallets. The airline can begin using the e2 containers for temperature-controlled cargo shipment beginning Nov. 1.

AA Cargo has also begun adding Envirotainer’s RKN e1 containers, which use compressor cooling and electric heating. The larger RAP e2 units are temperature-controlled with an insulated shell and can maintain product temperatures between 32 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit in nearly any ambient conditions, according to the manufacturer.

These containers are part of AA Cargo’s ExpediteTC° program, which was designed to ensure the safe delivery of time- and temperature-sensitive shipments.
