Fraport to build Swissport warehouse at FRA’s CargoCity South by 2020

Today, Fraport Group and Swissport signed an agreement for Fraport to develop a 16,900-square-meter, custom-built warehouse in CargoCity South at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) for the global ground handling company. The project, Fraport said, has a budget that will run into the “double-digit” millions of euros.

Senior vice president of real estate at Fraport AG, Christian Balletshofer, said this latest addition to the company’s existing international network of 133 warehouses will “optimize airfreight handling requirements” and “provide Swissport with long-term growth opportunities at Frankfurt Airport.”

The German arm of Swissport – Swissport Cargo Services Frankfurt – earned its CEIV-Pharma certification at FRA last November in a move that appealed to its clients involved in the transportation of pharmaceuticals. However, the statement did not make any mention of plans for any cool-chain accommodations at the facility.

The project is set to break ground in 2019 and scheduled to be completed during Q3 2020.
