IAG Cargo announced an increase in flights between its Madrid hub and the high-growth region of Panama.
As of June, an additional weekly flight will be added to the existing five flights per week, before moving to a daily service in July.
The route, served by Iberia’s A340-300, A340-600 and A330-300, will boost capacity in and out of Panama City by 24 percent following the introduction of daily flights.
Panama has an anticipated growth in GDP of 6.9 percent this year, according to the International Monetary Fund, making it Latin America’s fastest growing region.
“The additional capacity on offer complements our existing routes out of Latin America and into Europe, with these flights being particularly important for the delivery of perishable goods from across the region, for example carrying fresh flowers from Colombia,” Rodrigo Casal, regional commercial manager for LATAM at IAG Cargo, said.
Iberia, operating as part of the IAG Cargo network, claims it is the only airline to have flown between Europe and Panama without interruption since 1971.
