IAG Cargo announced an increase in frequency on its London Heathrow to Mexico City route, making for almost daily flights.
An additional weekly flight will provide extra capacity to this market, with the new service set to begin on April 27. The expanded schedule will see the number of flights per week increasing from five to six.
“With the increasing importance of emerging markets, it is essential that we provide enough capacity to serve these key areas and support our customers’ future growth,” Rodrigo Casal (pictured right), regional commercial manager for LATAM at IAG Cargo, said. “The additional flight, which is to be served by a Boeing 747, will see a 20 percent boost in airfreight capacity for our customers as well as increasing the level of flexibility for global businesses in this region.”
This route already provides important flows in and out of Mexico, with customers benefiting from the immediate connections offered at Heathrow, linking Mexico City to the more than 350 destinations that comprise IAG Cargo’s network.
IAG said these flights are key to the transportation of one of Mexico’s significant exports: perishable goods. The route allows perishable goods, such as berries, papayas and mangoes, to be delivered rapidly to many European export destinations including Amsterdam, Paris and Madrid. This is in addition to supporting other growing markets in Mexico, such as car manufacturing and fast-moving consumer goods.
