IAG Cargo expanded its cool-chain footprint by opening two new Constant Climate stations in Latin America, bringing the total number of gateways in the region to 15. IAG said the additional stations make the Latin American Constant Climate centers one of the largest regional networks for the transportation of time and temperature sensitive pharmaceutical goods.
The new facilities are at José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport and Mariscal Sucre International Airport, both in Ecuador. With these additions, IAG now has 105 stations worldwide. Two new Constant Climate stations also were opened in Europe previously, one in Oporto, Portugal and another in Linz, Austria.
Latin America is an increasingly important market for the trade in pharmaceuticals. Currently worth an estimated US$70 billion, the Latin American pharmaceutical market is expected to expand rapidly as a result of population growth and regional economics.
Constant Climate provides customers with temperature control for pharmaceuticals and life sciences, supporting temperature requirements as low as minus 68 degrees Fahrenheit and as high as 77 degrees Fahrenheit.
