Starting June 15, a new Lufthansa Cargo facility at Paderborn-Lippstadt Airport will begin consolidating air cargo in Eastern Westphalia for road transport to the airline’s global hub at Frankfurt Airport, a 275 kilometer drive to the south.
The facility will amalgamate standard freight, express freight and hazardous materials consignments before transporting them in regularly scheduled trucks under an LH flight number to Frankfurt. More services may be added later.
Demand for expedited shipment is on the rise in the region, driven in part by a strong small- and medium-size enterprise climate, according to Ulla Kuntze, regional director of sales and freight handling at Lufthansa Cargo. Kuntze explained that Lufthansa’s new service would contribute to “the further acceleration of imports and exports at the business location of Eastern Westphalia. The environment also benefits from the new freight handling options at Paderborn-Lippstadt Airport because bundled consignments can now be transported to our hub.”
The new facility is located approximately one hour east of Dortmund, and is also near to Dusseldorf, Kassel and Essen.
