After conducting a four-year search and testing many IT systems, Anchorage-based Northern Aviation Services has selected cloud-based Unisys software systems to replace its legacy software. Northern Aviation Services is the parent company of Anchorage’s Northern Air Cargo and Aloha Air Cargo, based in Honolulu.
Dave Squier, vice president of operations for Northern Aviation Services said they took their time identifying a system, relying on a requirements list and not just a sales pitch. “We had over 700 items on our requirements list, with each of them being rated on importance and cost savings to the company,” Squier said. “When we looked at systems, we never accepted ‘the system can do that’ from the sales side. Our response was, ‘Please, demonstrate to us on the screen within the system.’”
He said the process separated the sales pitch from the system’s operational functionality, which eliminated many of the other software solutions as options. Squier said he wanted to see increased speed, accuracy and efficiencies out of a new system.
