Shanghai Pudong International Airport Cargo Terminal Co., Ltd. (PACTL) had tonnage growth of 17.4 percent year over year in March.
PACTL handled 130,188 tonnes during the month. This was the best monthly result in the history of PACTL and beat the previous record set in November 2013.
The cargo terminal also saw tonnage rise up by 14.4 percent to a total figure of 321,549 tonnes in the first three months. This was the best result for the first quarter in the history of the company.
PACTL’s domestic cargo volumes grew by 11 percent year over year to 8,312 tonnes in March, while international cargo volumes rose by 17.8 percent to 121,876 tonnes. In the first quarter of 2014, domestic cargo volumes increased by 8.6 percent to 22,511 tonnes in comparison with the same period in 2013, while international cargo grew by 14.9 percent to 299,038 tonnes.
Imports increased by 12.8 percent to 51,763 tonnes in March, while exports grew by 20.6 percent to 78,425 tonnes compared to the previous year. Imports rose by 18.7 percent to a total figure of 133,712 tonnes during the first three months. Meanwhile, exports increased by 11.6 percent to 187,837 tonnes during the same period.
“In addition to ongoing positive developments in our domestic business, we saw strong double-digit growth in our international business in the first quarter, especially in the large volume of international exports that we handled in March,” Lutz Grzegorz, vice president of PACTL, said. “We expect further growth in the future, not least because we also continued expanding our customer base in March.”
PACTL started providing services for Kunming Airlines on March 30. It operates a daily flight from Shanghai Pudong International Airport to its home base at Kunming Wujiaba International Airport in China.
