Pilot Freight implements Amber Road’s On-Demand Export service

To help assess whether shippers have been cleared by security officials to conduct international trade, transportation and logistics firm Pilot Freight Services has signed on with Amber Road’s Export On-Demand service, which automatically determined whether a shipper has been cleared by the restricted party screening (RPS) process.

Amber Road, a provider of global trade management services, created Export On-Demand to speed up and automate the screening and hold resolution process for exports. Using algorithms created from 590 exporter lists from government institutions worldwide, Export On-Demand quickly determines whether customers are compliant with the most current government regulations, or if they have been designated a “restricted party” for trading goods with undesirable entities or placed on any official “denied persons” or “illegal trans-shipper” lists. The cloud-based system is also updated ever 24 hours for any additions.

The partnership with Amber Road “brings Pilot’s compliance program to the next level,” said Chris Ashiotes, Pilot’s vice president, general counsel and secretary. While making the deal Pilot sought to reduce risk “by driving educated decision-making” and increasing efficiency within its team, he added.

John Hill, Pilot’s president and COO, said the 3PL’s operations team has already “realized the benefits” of the Amber Road service in terms of increased productivity. “We are now able to greatly enhance our ability to safeguard our customers and shield the company against potential compliance violations,” he said.

The risks to 3PLs are real, said Ty Bordner, senior vice president of marketing and business development, for Amber Road. Those that work with non-compliant companies or individuals could be subject to “substantial fines, imprisonment and brand damage,” he cautioned.
