Smiths Detection scanner approved by TSA
Smiths Detection Inc.’s (SDI) dual-view HI-SCAN 6040-2is X-ray unit is the latest security scanning machine to be accepted within the “qualified” section of TSA’s Air Cargo Screening Technology List (ACSTL).
The X-ray machine uses multiple views and sophisticated algorithms to detect potential security threats within cargo loads and can penetrate 35-millimeter-thick steel. It offers ACTSL “category A” screening for smaller items that will later be added to a pallet, as well as break-bulk cargo. Additionally, it’s approved for EU Standard 3, type C, power supplies used in airport checkpoints throughout Europe.
One of the most significant changes in the 2015 update to the ACSTL was the requirement that new X-ray inspection purchases must be dual-view. Customers can now select from one of 12 SDI dual-view systems for their cargo screening applications, to meet the TSA air cargo screening requirements. SDI designs systems that can detect explosives, chemical agents, biohazards, nuclear materials, radiation, narcotics, weapons and contraband.
