In November, Etihad Cargo moved 49,700 tonnes of cargo around the world, the most it has ever carried in one month, and up 52 percent compared to the same period in 2012.
This surpassed the previous month of October, where cargo carried totaled 45,830 tonnes, up 39 percent year over year.
The figures reflect Etihad Cargo’s record year to date.
“These impressive figures have been driven largely by stronger performance into and out of some of our larger markets including China and India, as well as expanding markets such as the Netherlands and the United States,” Kevin Knight, Etihad Airways’ chief strategy and planning officer, said. “The record performance is also a reflection of strong demand in the final quarter, improved capacity utilization on our freighter fleet, more cargo in the belly-hold of our passenger aircraft and enhancements at our Abu Dhabi hub through subsidiary Etihad Airport Services – Cargo.”
Etihad Cargo’s hub also had its best ever performance in November.
“Looking ahead, we expect to maintain strong freight performance over the final month of 2013,” Knight said.
In addition to recording its November freight figures, Etihad Cargo has also become the first cargo airline in the Gulf region to implement Cargo-XML, the International Air Transport Association’s new technology standard for air cargo communications. Developed collaboratively, Cargo-XML removes the requirement for the Airway Bill.
“The implementation of Cargo-XML follows close collaboration with Abu Dhabi Customs and other stakeholders, and marks a major step in establishing Abu Dhabi as an E-freight airport,” Knight said.
