Delta Cargo and partner Air France-KLM have added Seattle to the list of cities in which the two carriers share facilities in anticipation of higher monthly airfreight volumes.
Delta Cargo and its partners have employed this co-locating strategy in hub cities across the nation – namely Atlanta, Boston, Salt Lake City, Minneapolis, Detroit, New York, Washington, D.C., Miami and Orlando – citing a more efficient use of cargo capacity and simplified shipping processes as its reason for the continued application of the strategy.
Air France-KLM will be getting cozy with another of Delta’s partners, Virgin Atlantic, which has utilized capacity at Delta’s Seattle warehouse since last March. Since then, Delta and Virgin have handled about 544 tonnes of cargo from Virgin’s daily 787 flights. They expect to handle another 180 tonnes per month in anticipation of a newly launched Air France Boeing 777 flight between Seattle and Paris that will run five times per week.
