- Three students at the Moscow Aviation Institute won Volga-Dnepr Group’s international competition to design an advanced transport aircraft of the 21st century. Sergey Borovykh, Nikolay Turbin and Ilya Ageev presented a project for the design of a “heavy transport aircraft concept with new aerodynamic configuration.” Their proposal consisted of a triplane aircraft of the Antonov-225 Mriya type. The winners have now been invited to join the Volga-Dnepr Design Bureau team.
- Qantas will boost services between Melbourne and Los Angeles, and between Sydney and Santiago, from early 2015.
- Boeing announced an order by BOC Aviation for 50 737 MAX 8s, 30 Next-Generation 737-800s and two 777-300ERs. The order is the largest in BOC Aviation’s 20-year history and part of the Singapore-based leasing company’s effort to grow its portfolio of fuel-efficient airplanes.
- Ground service provider Cathay Pacific Services Limited obtained the International Air Transport Association Safety Audit for Ground Operations registration.
- One of Ruslan International’s An-124 freighters delivered a large replacement ball mill head from Australia to a mining company operating in Chile, enabling full production to be resumed.
- Boeing and Royal Jordanian celebrated the delivery of the airline’s first 787 Dreamliner. The airplane will play a role in the Amman-based airline’s plan for fleet modernization. Royal Jordanian acquired this airplane through leasing company AerCap.
- CEVA Logistics announced plans to expand its presence in the San Diego market with a new freight management and logistics facility totaling 125,000 square feet (11,612 square meters) and 23 dock doors. It is located near the San Diego International Airport.
- Air Transport Services Group, Inc. said that its airline subsidiary, ABX Air, has received termination notices from DHL affecting four DHL-owned Boeing 767-200 freighters that ABX Air leases and operates within the U.S. under terms of the Crew, Maintenance and Insurance agreement between the companies. DHL sought bids to operate the aircraft from other vendors earlier this year.
- Worldwide Flight Services was awarded the handling concession for a new cargo terminal at Milan Malpensa Airport, part of a major investment program to increase the airport’s cargo capacity to 1 million tonnes a year by 2020. WFS will move into the new building in early 2016 on completion of the construction phase.
