- A Cigarette Marauder power boat arrived in Nice, France, onboard Volga-Dnepr Airlines’ IL-76TD-90VD freighter after its engineers devised a special loading procedure to accommodate the boat’s length, weight and low ground clearance. The Marauder was flown from Doha, Qatar, to Nice. The flight was operated on behalf of Volga-Dnepr’s charter partner Air Partner.
- SATS Ltd. attained the European Union Regulated Agents (RA3) accreditation, making it the first ground handler in Singapore to do so. This certification confirms that SATS meets the security requirements for screening air cargo and mail entering the EU.
- Worldwide Flight Services signed an agreement to acquire Swissport’s cargo business at Copenhagen Airport. Swissport will transfer all business activities to WFS on Oct. 1. Swissport handles 18,000 tonnes of cargo a year.
- American Airlines Cargo began offering cargo service to and from the following cities: Milwaukee, Wis.; San Jose, Calif.; and St. George’s, Bermuda. In addition, AA Cargo in Philadelphia will operate out of a new location.
- Moscow-based Transaero Airlines reported that revenue from cargo transportation increased by 20 percent in the first six months of 2014.
- Emirates added Frankfurt to its growing list of A380 destinations. With the addition of Frankfurt, Emirates now serves 30 global destinations with the A380.
- The UK Airports Commission rejected the proposal of a Thames Estuary Airport from its shortlist of options for providing new airport capacity by 2030. The Freight Transport Association welcomed the decision, saying London’s status as the UK’s airfreight hub is important.
- LAN Cargo and the Municipality of Easter Island signed an agreement that establishes the transportation of cardboard bundles to Santiago for recycling and reuse. LAN Cargo’s part in the agreement includes the transportation of 12 bundles of cardboard a week (24 tonnes per month) from the island to Santiago. Once on the mainland, a recycling company that arranges their reuse removes the bundles.
- In the first half of 2014, Amsterdam Airport Schipol’s cargo volumes increased 9.1 percent to 802,000 tonnes.
- Delta Air Lines’ cargo tonne miles for August increased by 1.1 percent to 213,647.
- CSafe Global, a provider of cool chain services, experienced a significant increase in the demand for its AcuTemp brand passive packaging. As a result of this, CSafe has expanded its production facilities with the creation of 30 new jobs in Dayton, Ohio.
