Air France-KLM-Martinair Cargo, with help from Rhenus Logistics and logistics software company, Cargonaut, are making strides in modernizing the slow-to-change world of cargo, by introducing a new software-based truck traffic management system at Amsterdam-Schiphol.
Beginning this month, truck drivers can arrive at Amsterdam-Schiphol and proceed directly to the designated loading docks without the need to stop at the documentation desk. Using eLink software, developed by Cargonaut, the system alerts the warehouse management system, so the handler can check to confirm whether the shipment is ready for carriage, and that it is secure and paperless. When drivers arrive at the cargo area, they can scan their ACN (recognized road hauler) cards, and, if they meet all three conditions, they can proceed directly to the loading dock.
E-freight, a big topic in the supply-chain industry, aims to replace paper documents with electronic alternatives in the airfreight industry. The expectation is that delivery processes will be more efficient with e-freight and less prone to error, in addition to saving money.
