The new American has a global network with nearly 6,700 daily flights to more than 330 destinations in more than 50 countries and more than 100,000 employees worldwide.
“Our people, our customers and the communities we serve around the world have been anticipating the arrival of the new American,” Doug Parker, CEO of American Airlines, said. “We are taking the best of both US Airways and American Airlines to create a formidable competitor, better positioned to deliver for all of our stakeholders. We look forward to integrating our companies quickly and efficiently so the significant benefits of the merger can be realized.”
The airlines’ separate websites, aa.com and usairways.com, will continue to operate separately until further in the integration process.
Jim Butler, cargo president at American Airlines, replaces Kenji Hashimoto, who has become senior vice president of regional carriers. Hashimoto served as cargo president from May 2012 until Butler’s appointment in December 2013.
“For the next several months, it will be business as usual for everyone with no changes to our operations,” Butler wrote in a letter to cargo customers. “This complex integration is expected to last for quite some time and plans for integrating both airlines have already begun. In the meantime, you will continue to communicate with your current cargo representatives and tender business at locations just as you have done for each airline.”
