Cathy Pacific believes the new freight service will attract interest from China and other Northeast Asia nations for the importation of electronic goods, including computers, computer components and integrated circuits/semi-conductors, and garments.
Automobiles and auto parts, pharmaceuticals, garments and textiles comprise the key exportation markets out of Bengaluru.
Cathay Pacific Director Cargo Nick Rhodes points to the numerous business implications of this new route. “India is an increasingly important market for our cargo business and we are pleased to be able to extend our coverage in the country through the launch of a freighter service to Bengaluru,” he said in a statement. “This new service will enhance Cathay’s presence in India.”
With the addition of Bengaluru to its flight schedule, Cathay Pacific now operates 20 weekly freight flights to India. Bengaluru isn’t the only city on the carrier’s radar, however. Cathay Pacific also recently launched twice-weekly freighter service from Chennai, India to Frankfurt, Germany.
With flights continuing on to either Manchester, England or Brussels, Cathay Pacific hopes to increase commerce between European and southern India.
