An A380 operated by Emirates touched down in Orlando Sept.1, receiving the traditional water-cannon salute to mark the first time an A380 has landed at Orlando International Airport, and the beginning of daily service between Orlando and Dubai. Fortunately for forwarders in the area, the regularly scheduled service will be offered on a much more cargo-friendly 777-200 LR for the 14-hour flight.
The 777, which has the belly capacity of more than 17 tonnes of cargo in each direction, will support Florida’s export market, said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, CEO of Emirates. Orlando’s mayor, Buddy Dyer, said the new direct service will create new jobs and opportunities for residents of Orlando.
