Bring on the stogies. This summer IAG Cargo will be launching a new route into Colombia while also servicing Cuba. The new frequencies will connect Cali and Medellín in Colombia, and Havana in Cuba, which brings IAG’s worldwide network to 350 destinations.
With these additional frequencies, IAG’s gateways in Latin America total 19. Additionally, IAG will increase its flights in and out of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from five flights per week to daily, beginning April 1.
Flights to Cuba will begin June 1 between IAG’s hub in Madrid to Havana, operating Saturdays through Wednesdays. The new route from Madrid to the Colombian cities will operate as triangular flights between Madrid, Medellin, Cali and back to Madrid, beginning July 3 and operating Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Both of these new routes will be served by A330s.
Exports of flowers and fruit from Cali and Medellín are expected, while those destinations will import books and clothing. Cuba’s famous tobacco products are expected to be its main export, while the country will import perishables and mechanical goods. Havana is also an important stop for trans-shipment of flowers, fruit and textiles. On the Santo Domingo route, IAG will continue to import general freight while picking up fruit and vegetables.
