Etihad Cargo has launched a weekly freighter service between Abu Dhabi and Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, in a bid to capture Cambodia’s growing garment and footwear output. Fashion related industry now accounts for 10 percent of the country’s workforce, and Cambodia’s rise represents a demand for cheap labor as countries like China see their labor costs rise.
David Kerr, senior vice president, Etihad Cargo, said that, “Freight demand on the Asia–Europe trade corridor is among the strongest in the world.” Kerr added that “transporting goods and services to the world’s big consumer markets is vital to support the country’s dynamic growth.”
The new route brings Etihad Cargo’s Asia network to 15 destinations.
Etihad’s new service operates Abu Dhabi–Singapore–Phnom Penh–Abu Dhabi on an A330F, which has a payload of 64 tonnes.
