Fraport made significant improvements at Frankfurt Airport’s CargoCity South, with input from the German Freight Forwarders and Logistics Association. Forwarders and staff now have 70 new truck parking spaces and amenities for truck drivers including showers and other sanitary facilities. The project was finished in mid-March after a year of construction.
The new parking area is located behind airport gate 31, with available parking spaces 24-hours a day for vans, trucks and semi-trailers. The new parking lot is designed to accommodate truck drivers while they wait for customs clearance, or when they are waiting for loading or unloading of their freight shipments at the airport’s cargo terminals. The improvements are expected to reduce road traffic congestion in the area, especially during peak times.
The parking area and related facilities were planned with the German Freight Forwarder’s Association, along with truck shipping lines based at FRA. The project was initiated by the CargoCity Frankfurt task force. Fraport, which operates the airport, launched the project with the goal of improving on-airport infrastructure for truck drivers, while easing the strain other on parking areas at CargoCity North.
Operations in the parking lot can be integrated in Fraport’s new Fair@Link computerized scheduling system, one more step in Frankfurt Airport’s initiative to enhance digital access at its cargo hub.
