The GEFCO Group which specializes in automotive logistics has acquired Netherlands-based forwarder IJS Global, from private equity firm Nimbus. The two companies said they will combine their expertise and geographic networks.
IJS Global was founded in 2004 as an air and sea freight forwarder. With its headquarters in Amsterdam, it employs approximately 500 people, generating US$179.5 million in 2014. IJS has operations in 16 countries with particular expertise in the UK, the Netherlands, Australia, China, Southeast Asia and the United States. It operates across several business sectors including pharmaceuticals, humanitarian relief, high-tech, oil and gas and fashion.
The GEFCO Group is in 40 countries. With this acquisition, it will be able to develop more contacts in China and Southeast Asia, and extend its European network. The group has authorized economic operator status in Europe, and now will be able to operate in over 150 countries and connect over 350 destinations.
