Beginning Oct. 28, the route will be serviced daily by a Boeing 777-300ER, replacing the 777-200 now servicing the route.
The new flight brings the weekly total on the Rio de Janeiro route to seven frequencies. This will allow IAG Cargo customers to ship an increased weight of cargo, with an additional available capacity of 42 tonnes per week.
Rio de Janeiro and Latin America are important growth markets for IAG Cargo. In 2012, the London-Rio de Janeiro route generated 2,759 tonnes of cargo.
“The additional flights will prove highly beneficial to IAG Cargo’s South American business and our customers, allowing us to increase our offering in a market that is showing real growth amidst difficult global conditions,” David Shepherd, head of commercial at IAG Cargo, said. “The now daily capacity builds on our extensive global network and 16 existing gateways to Latin America.”
IAG Cargo operates 30 flights per day from Latin America, equating to more than 150 tonnes shipped from the area every day.
