The International Air Transport Association has applauded the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s decision to accept electronic air waybills for import and export cargo at the agency’s more than 120 facilities across the U.S. and Puerto Rico. “Acceptance of the [e-AWB] in the world’s largest economy marks a major step toward our target of 100-percent acceptance of the e-AWB and our ultimate goal of eliminating paper from the air cargo process,” IATA CEO Tony Tyler said in a statement.
CEVA Logistics has opened an expanded cargo facility at Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The new center, which spans 1,300 square meters, offers warehousing and office space and is located within the KLIA Cargo Village.
UPS has pledged $1.5 million in cash and in-kind support to aid in the relief efforts following Superstorm Sandy, which devastated the northeastern U.S. last week. Rival FedEx has also committed to help, pledging $1.2 million in cash and in-kind transportation to support hurricane relief efforts.
Air France-KLM-Martinair Cargo successfully flew a rare sea turtle, dubbed Flip, from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport on a KLM Boeing 747 Combi aircraft. Flip was contained on a custom-built crate, which adhered to International Air Transport Association Live Animal Regulations, during the duration of the journey.
