Virgin Atlantic Cargo has launched four weekly flights from London Heathrow to Vancouver. The carrier already offers service to nine other destinations in North America. Last month, Virgin resumed its A340-600 weekly flights to Chicago.FedEx has acquired the Brazilian logistics company Rapidao Cometa Logistica e Transportes S.A. in order to expand the intergrator’s coverage in Latin America. FedEx also recently acquired Polish shipping company Opek Sp.z o.o and French express firm Tatex. “We are delighted that Rapidão Cometa will be joining FedEx Express. Brazil is a market with tremendous growth potential—both in the overall economy, as well as in the logistics sector,” FedEx Express’ president of Latin America and Caribbean, Juan Cento. said in a statement. “The acquisition of Rapidão Cometa — one of the largest logistics solutions providers in Brazil — is in line with our long-term strategy to grow our Latin American business and better serve our customers seeking to enter or expand their businesses in the Brazilian market. FedEx will now be able to provide a more comprehensive portfolio of services in Brazil, including international air express, domestic ground and value-added services such as supply chain and logistics solutions.”Thai Cargo has returned to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol after an 18-month absence with a weekly B747 freighter flight. The new service will take off from Bangkok and fly through Madras and Amsterdam before returning home. Aviapartner will provide handling services for the flight.The International Air Transport Association has formally welcomed AirBridgeCargo Airlines as an active member, following the carrier’s citation in the IATA Operational Safety Audit registry. According to a press release, AirBridgeCargo actively participates in IATA programs designed to boost airfreight safety and is an associate member of IATA’s Cargo 2000 group.Boeing announced that it has delivered its 20th 747-8F since October 2011. Atlas Air, the recipient of the May 31 delivery, will operate the freighter on behalf of Panalpina, according to a press release.
