Increased revenue and a more efficient operation led Jan de Rijk Logistics Group to more than double its EBIT in 2014 over 2013. The Dutch company reports a total turnover of €184 million in 2014, and EBIT of €5.7 million compared to €3.3 million EBIT in 2013.
Jan de Rijk implemented cost-cutting measures while diversifying, which led to the improved results, the company said. It also added a second train between Italy and the Netherlands, strengthening its intermodal network. The company has continued to increase logistics for health care, and it has made additions to its road feeder services, including a contract with IAG for the carrier’s Iberia traffic, and Virgin Atlantic Cargo, with 50 airports across Europe. Its warehousing division also had solid growth.
The company is only “modestly optimistic” about 2015 due to the weak euro and how it might affect import volumes. Also, the economy in the eurozone is still uncertain.
