During the first quarter of 2014, Finnair Cargo flew 9.9 percent more freight and mail year over year.
Finnair Cargo transported 35,220 tonnes of freight and mail during the quarter. Sold freight revenue tonne kilometers grew 6.9 percent against capacity growth of 2.2 percent, which led to an increased load factor of 64.7 percent.
“We had very strong demand on our Japanese routes, as well as on North Atlantic services during the first quarter,” Juha Järvinen, managing director of Finnair Cargo, said. “The new Brussels cargo hub for Finnair Cargo, opened in April 2013, continued to deliver positive contribution to our Asian network, with cargo tonnage growth in Germany (accumulated 12 months) 20 percent, and 252 percent in Belgium. We see positive signals in volume development across many key markets, but yields remain under pressure.”
Finnair Cargo added a third weekly MD11 freighter service to Hanoi, Vietnam, and Hong Kong in April, as well as reopened seasonal A330 service to Xi’an, China, in late March.
