The world’s largest aircraft is making its way to Canada.
A gas cooler weighing 141 tonnes was loaded on board the Antonov An-225 at Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany on Wednesday. The machine made its way to the airport from Berlin by inland waterway and low loader, and two cranes moved the unit on board the Antonov An-225 using a specially constructed ramp.
This was the heaviest item of freight ever handled at Leipzig/Halle Airport. The plane is flying the gas cooler to Canada.
“Leipzig/Halle Airport offers ideal conditions for freight charter flights around the globe with its excellent transport connections and the opportunities provided by its 24-hour operating permit,” Markus Kopp, CEO of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, said.
In order to fly a different shipment, the Antonov An-225 will land Friday at Edmonton International Airport in Canada.
The plane will carry Agrium’s Redwater Fertilizer Operations’ new waste heat boiler, a piece of equipment used in the production of nitrogen fertilizer.
Schenker of Canada arranged for all segments of the delivery originating from Berlin, including barge, truck and final arrival at Edmonton International Airport.
