The airport handled 813,802 tonnes of cargo between January and November – an increase of 2.8 percent over the same period in the previous year.
“The current figures once again underline the fact that Leipzig/Halle is the country’s largest express freight hub and is the growth engine in the airport world in Germany,” Markus Kopp, CEO of Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding, said. “With expected annual volumes of approximately 880,000 tonnes, the airport is continuing to consolidate its position as one of the most important air cargo transshipment centers in Europe. This positive development makes me optimistic about the development of business in 2014 too.”
Cargo flights operate from Leipzig/Halle Airport to around 60 destinations in more than 30 countries. DHL has been operating its European hub at Leipzig/Halle Airport since 2008.
