Authorization has been granted for the construction of a cold-storage facility for agricultural products at the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, according to a report in the Wadsam Afghan Business News. The paper cited Deputy Director of the Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority (ACAA) Shah Mahmood Habibi as saying that the new facility would have a storage capacity of 70 to 100 tonnes, and would cover more than 1,760 square meters. The facility will be constructed inside the airport’s customs office.
The cost of constructing the new facility is estimated at US$46,000 according to Wadsam. There are plans to construct similar facilities at Herat, Balkh and Kandahar airports, said the official. At a meeting with Afghan government ministries, Habibi said the construction of cold storage would facilitate Afghan exports.
