A twice-weekly 767 freighter service between Navoi International Airport and Frankfurt, courtesy of Uzbekistan Airways, is now operating on Wednesdays and Fridays. The carrier is offering freighter connections onward to Mumbai, Delhi, Dubai, Shanghai and Tianjin via Navoi in Uzbekistan.
Opened in 1962 in the Soviet era, Navoi Airport was taken over byUzbekistan Airways when the national carrier was established in 1992. The airport began major enhancements in 2007, including complete renovation of runways and taxiways, new modern lighting and a new control tower. In 2009 Korean Air Cargo took over management of the airport, continuing with the modernization of the facility.
With the largest air cargo terminal in Central Asia, Navoli can handle 100,000 tonnes of cargo annually. Uzbekistan Airways began cargo operations based at the airport in May 2009.
