- Emirates SkyCargo has started a weekly main-deck frequency between Dubai and Paris. The flight operates on Thursday evenings from Paris to Dubai, using a 777F. With 20 weekly departures from Paris operating A380 aircraft, the carrier also offers bellyhold space. Seven weekly frequencies using the 777F operate from Nice, and five from Lyon, also using the 777F.
- UPS honored 1,445 of its top drivers by inducting them into its “Circle of Honor,” bringing the number of drivers who have not had an avoidable accident for 25 years or more to 7,878. This is the largest number of active Circle of Honor drivers in company history, and it includes 66 new members from Canada, Germany and Puerto Rico. Orlando, Fla. tractor-trailer driver Ginny Odom became UPS’s first female driver to reach 40 years without an accident. She is one of 62 active UPS drivers to reach that milestone out of 102,000 drivers worldwide. This year, 41 of the new inductees are women; there are 166 women in the Circle of Honor.
- Globe Express Services, has added three new locations in France – Le Havre, Bordeaux and Marseille – expanding its network in Europe. All three serve in-bound and out-bound sea- and airfreight, and provide customs clearance and warehousing services for many commodities. They handle a range of shipments including exports to China, Africa, Chile, Brazil, Russia, the U.S. and Canada, serving various sectors such as furniture, retail, healthcare, aerospace, packaging, fashion and other luxury-related segments.
- West Air Sweden will provide domestic air transportation for mail, per a new contract with the Norwegian postal service. The agreement begins in August and runs until July 2020. Six BAe ATP freighters and two CRJ freighters will be flown for the service.
- IATA reports that there are ongoing attempts using fraudulent emails to obtain payment from users of IATA products. The fraudsters use a technique to mask the name of the actual sender, so the email appears to be sent from a valid IATA address. An email may also contain a link, which when clicked on takes the user to a fake website that requests your login information, which is then used to steal your credentials. - Southern Air was awarded the Diamond Award of Excellence by the Federal Aviation Administration, the FAA’s highest honor for maintenance training and overall maintenance excellence. The airline’s maintenance professionals completed more than 4,000 hours of specific aircraft and product installation, as well as safety and regulatory training in 2014 to earn the award.
- Descartes Systems Group, which unites logistics-intensive businesses in commerce, will be using CDM Software Solutions, a provider of cloud-based operations and asset tracking software for freight forwarders, export packers, exporters and other logistics services providers.
- Analysts with technology research company, TechNavio, have forecasted the global air cargo security and screening systems market to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 5.11 percent over the period 2013-2018. This is partly due to the increase in global air cargo traffic. Screening systems currently in use include X-ray, explosives trace detection, explosives detection technologies, physical inspection and threat-detection dogs.
- STI Freight Management headquartered in Duisburg, Germany, has reorganized its international network by bundling its 13 European branches into four regions: West, East, North and South. As regional directors, Kai Schüttke, vice president of STI Freight Management, will lead the West/East regions, and Bertrand Moyer, director of STI France, will lead the North/South regions. The leadership duo will support STI’s decentralized European business development team as well as the group’s European road transport team. The North/South region consists of the three branches in France as well as locations in Italy, Spain, the U.K. and Sweden. The East/West region is coordinated from STI headquarters in Duisburg, Germany, and covers branches in Germany, Poland, Hungary, Latvia and Russia.
