Shanghai Pudong International Airport Cargo Terminal Co., Ltd. (PACTL) has something to cheer about. The Shanghai cargo handler reported its strongest annual first-half results in its history, achieving tonnage growth of 10.89 percent, year-over-year. PACTL handled a total of 762,104 tonnes of airfreight from January until the end of June.
Import cargo volume increased by 14.66 percent, y-o-y, with a reported 315,044 tonnes handled. International imports rose by 15.02 percent to 290,317 tonnes, with domestic imports rising 10.67 percent to 26,951 tonnes of cargo handled.
Export volume grew by 8.37 percent for a total of 447,060 tonnes, y-o-y. International exports grew by 7.63 percent, for a total of 420,109 tonnes handled, while domestic exports increased by 21.48 percent to 29,951 tonnes.
PACTL’s vice president, Lutz Grzegorz, credits recent market trends for the robust numbers. He said international imports from Europe to the United States have been positive. “We achieved a strong increase in domestic exports during the second quarter,” he said. “As far as this trend is concerned, I expect freight volumes to develop in a similar way for the rest of the year.”
PACTL processed 49.3 percent of air cargo that moved through Shanghai during the first half of 2015. It has also gained 10 new customer airlines during the same period. In 2014, it handled about 1.5 million tonnes of airfreight.
