The city of St. Louis, United States, and Toluca, Mexico, are planning to form a partnership for importing and exporting goods, with St. Louis serving as a key air hub.
A delegation from St. Louis, which includes Mayor Francis Slay, Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge, the director of Lambert St. Louis International Airport, and U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, E. Anthony Wayne, are traveling to Mexico City this week to discuss the development of international cargo routing through St. Louis. Toluca, located 39 miles southwest of Mexico City, is the country’s fifth-largest city and the capital of the State of Mexico, serving a large industrial region.
The delegation has been meeting with Eruviel Ȧvila, the governor of the State of Mexico, who pledged to support the project, which would still need the approval of the Mexican federal government. The delegation has the support of Missouri senators Claire McCaskill and Roy Blunt, as well as U.S. representatives for Missouri, Ann Wagner and WM Lacy Clay.
Mexico is the third-largest foreign trade partner for the St. Louis area, valued at more than US$3.5 billion in total trade.
