- Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. redelivered the first CargoAir 737-400SF 11 pallet conversion (pictured above) in Dothan, Ala. The aircraft was built in 1989 and has been placed into service flying for DHL Express from their hub in Leipzig, Germany.
- American Airlines Cargo began service to Liberia, Costa Rica and to New York – LaGuardia. The airline is opening new cargo stations in Costa Rica and New York to give customers more service in more cities.
- BioPortEurope has been taken over by two of its partners and turned into a commercial enterprise to offer integrated business services for life science companies wanting to enter the European market. IJS Global and Seijgraaf Advisory Group, as the lead partners, have teamed up with global accounting group Mazars, Rabobank and the Amsterdam Economic Board to offer services to provide life science companies with technical expertise. BioPortEurope was created in 2010 as a project from Amsterdam Innovation Motor to facilitate Indian life science companies expanding their business into the European market.
- Megatrans, a growing Mauritian company specialized in the supply chain industry, has joined PPL Networks, a network of independent forwarders and logistic companies.
- DHL Express Qatar received two major honors at the Europe, Middle East, Africa Contact Center World 2013 conference (pictured right). The company received the silver awards for Best Customer Service EMEA 2013 (less than 50 seats) and Best Call Center in EMEA 2013 (less than 50 seats). DHL was picked out of a field of 1,500 entrants from more than 50 countries.
- Boeing and Turkish Airlines have announced an order for five 777-300ER airplanes, valued at $1.6 billion. The carrier has exercised options on five 777-300ERs that were first announced in December 2012 as part of a previous firm order for 15 777-300ERs. Turkish Airlines now has 20 777-300ERs on order from Boeing.
- Dubai World Central has revealed that United-Arab-Emirates-based Total Freight International began construction of its own facility in DWC’s Logistics District (pictured left). The facility, which will be operational in April 2014, will primarily be used for general cargo warehousing, distribution and value added services, in addition to office space. A section of the warehouse space within the state-of-the-art facility will be allocated for cargo requiring a temperate-controlled environment.
- CSafe Global and DB Schenker Logistics announced the signing of a master lease agreement that will enhance DB Schenker’s health care cold chain offering to include the CSafe RKN, developed specifically for the life science, pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.
- CEVA Logistics is creating a campus consolidating several facilities in Mt. Juliet, Tenn., a suburb of Nashville. CEVA’s new 700,000-sq.-ft. (65,000-sq.-meter) facility combines two existing properties in Nashville plus a network distribution site that had been based in Chicago.
- CargoWise, a technology company for logistics service providers, announced that TWIG Logistics Network has become a WiseIndustry Partner to ensure its members have ready access to CargoWise’s software. Founded in March 2013, TWIG has already more than doubled in size in just three months, and now boasts 40 members in 35 countries.
- Etihad Airways signed an agreement with IAE International Aero Engines AG to upgrade the airline’s current and future fleet of 35 V2500 engine-powered Airbus A320 family of aircraft to the V2500 SelectTwo engine standard. The carrier will purchase 73 V2500 SelectTwo engine upgrade kits, which also makes provision for spare engines. The main advantage of SelectTwo is improved fuel burn.
- The Boeing Company reported that second-quarter core earnings per share increased 13 percent to US$1.67. Second-quarter core operating earnings also increased 13 percent to US$2 billion year over year.
- Less than nine months after launching its inaugural service to Lyon, Emirates will upgrade the route’s operating aircraft to a Boeing 777-200LR (pictured right) starting Feb. 1, 2014. The aircraft will continue to operate five times per week.
