- The newest location in AIT Worldwide Logistics’ global network opened in Omaha, Neb. The locally owned and operated facility is AIT’s 41st office. The new office is a General Purpose Foreign Trade Zone warehouse operation for the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce. The location is also a full service third-party logistics operation, a U.S. bonded facility and a Customs Examination Site.
- Towne Air Freight ordered 300 new Great Dane trailers to increase its fleet and retire older equipment. The 6.8-million-euro (US$9-million) trailer delivery begins in September and will be completed November.
- Beginning in the winter, airberlin will increase the number of flights it operates to Russia. The airline will fly twice a day from Berlin to St. Petersburg in the winter. airberlin will add an additional flight to its popular Berlin-Moscow route, bringing the weekly number of flights for this service to 14.
- PEMCO World Air Services announced the approval of its Boeing 737 300/400 passenger to freighter modifications by Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil in Brazil. Expansion into Brazil adds to PEMCO’s global reach and represents the 30th
major national aviation authority certification of its 737-300/400 freighter, combi and quick change products. - Port San Antonio is supporting Forward Air Solutions’ latest expansion, as the logistics company prepares to occupy an 8,325-square-meter (89,600-square-foot) distribution facility at the port’s industrial airport, Kelly Field, later this year. Tennessee-based Forward Air Solutions, Inc. is a provider of pool distribution services. The company specializes in the consolidation and delivery of goods through a logistics process that replenishes inventory at retail outlets.
- All Nippon Airways has ordered three additional 777-300ER airplanes from Boeing. The order, valued at approximately 713.9 million euros (US$945 million), will increase the total number of 777s in ANA’s fleet to 57 airplanes once delivered.
