- Budapest Airport celebrated the launch of a new service that links Minsk, Belarus; Belgrade, Serbia and Budapest. Republic of Belarus carrier Belavia-Belarusian Airlines (pictured above) began twice weekly scheduled flights in what will be a year-round service that connects the three European capital cities for the first time. The flights from Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport and Minsk National Airport will be operated by Bombardier CRJ 200LR on Mondays and Thursdays.
- Air Logistics Sdn Bhd opened its office in Brunei in Southeast Asia. The company has secured the long-term contract of the management of Royal Brunei Airlines’ entire worldwide air cargo business and responsibility for all ground handling activities at all destinations on the Royal Brunei network.
- Boeing made performing routine maintenance and diagnosing aircraft issues faster for airline technicians with a suite of new mobile applications for the iPad. With the apps, technicians will have immediate access to manuals, part numbers and other critical information to resolve maintenance issues planeside and collaborate with coworkers located elsewhere. Boeing worked with several airlines for more than a year on the prototype.
- Etihad Airways hinted at more investments in other airlines, as it continues to increase its global presence through a mix of organic growth and strategic partnerships. The airline is now engaged in three major transactions – the acquisition of 24 percent of India’s Jet Airways, a 49 percent stake and management contract in Air Serbia, and increasing equity in Virgin Australia from 10 percent to a target of 19.9 percent.
- Professional Parcel Logistics, a subsidiary of DHL Freight, opened its new parcel hub in the Czech Republic. The new facility is located in Rícany-Jazlovice and serves as the new central hub for parcel shipments and as a regional depot for the area east of Prague and Central Bohemia.
- Airbus announced a new lower weight variant of its A330-300 wide-body aircraft that is optimized for use on domestic and regional routes in high-growth markets with large populations and concentrated traffic flows. China will be one of the most important markets for this new version of the aircraft.

The contract is for one aircraft under an ACMI agreement, with service expected to begin in the next few weeks. This is the first 747-400F in Astral Aviation’s global network, and it will provide all-cargo operations between Europe and Africa.
