- Kuwait Airways (pictured above) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to buy 10 A350-900 and 15 A320neo family aircraft. The order is part of Kuwait Airways’ fleet renewal strategy.
- For the 10th year, DHL Express is supporting the New York community in its effort to send hundreds of fresh-cut Christmas trees along with thousands of holiday letters, menorahs, decorations and gifts to U.S. servicemen and women in Afghanistan and Bahrain. All the goods will be packed and shipped courtesy of DHL Express from Long Island-based Dees’ Nursery. The trees will be transported to the DHL Gateway facility at JFK International Airport, connecting with the DHL Americas Hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, where they will be loaded onto a 777 aircraft that travels non-stop to the Middle East.
- Qatar Airways announced new daily international service from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to Doha, Qatar, starting July 1, 2014. The Dallas/Fort Worth route will be operated with the airline’s Boeing 777-200LR aircraft.
- Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. announced that Kahala Aviation of Ireland has converted one of two options secured in April to a firm order. The third aircraft is a high gross weight B737-400 built in 1992 and is undergoing freighter modification at AEI’s Authorized Conversion Center, Commercial Jet Services in Dothan, Ala. The B737-400 will be converted on a speculative basis and available for lease in April 2014.
- Through the use of GSM transponders, Lufthansa Cargo customers will now be able to check online where their consignment is at all times. The tracking devices have been specifically designed for use on board aircraft. The transmitters will switch off automatically during flight. Lufthansa Cargo will provide the required number of devices. The shipper can place a tracker in any shipment and return the device by mail after the goods have been transported.
- Starting Dec. 18, Air Canada Cargo has daily wide-body service between Toronto and Los Angeles with 763-300 and A330 aircraft.
- Air Partner has become the only air charter broker in the UK certified ISO 9001:2008 compliant, the most widely used and internationally recognized framework for good business and quality management. Air Partner’s certification covers offices in the UK, Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.
- IAG Cargo unveiled new routes for its next-generation aircraft, the B787 and A380. The aircraft, which are being delivered to British Airways, will be deployed across a number of key routes in the IAG Cargo network throughout 2014. The B787 will launch from four locations on IAG Cargo’s global network, with the first flight leaving Hyderabad, India, on March 30. After this initial route, the aircraft will service Chengdu, China starting May 5, followed by flights leaving Philadelphia on June 5 and Calgary on July 5. In addition, the A380 will begin its service to Washington on Sept. 1 and is set to start services to Johannesburg in February.
- Volga-Dnepr Group delivered two large, self-propelled modular transporters from Austria to Khabarovsk, Russia. Volga-Dnepr operated the charter flight using one of its IL-76TD-90VD freighters and the capacity onboard its Boeing 747 scheduled all-cargo services. Volga-Dnepr completed the flights and logistics services on behalf of Russian company SWTrans. The 51-tons of cargo consisted of the two modular transporters, which are used for the transportation of heavy outsize loads.
- Kuehne + Nagel and fashion brand Benetton were awarded Logistics Company of the Year at the Logistics Award of the Year in Milan for transforming Benetton’s inbound supply chain. CEVA Logistics was presented with the Logistics Company of the Year award in recognition of the City of Pharma, a logistics hub dedicated to warehousing and handling of health care products that opened earlier this year in Stradella, Italy.
- Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. redelivered the sixth B737-400SF 11 pallet freighter to the ASL Aviation Group. The sixth freighter to deliver is a high-gross weight B737-400SF built in 1992. The conversion was performed at AEI’s Authorized Conversion Center, Commercial Jet Inc. in Miami. The aircraft has been ferried to Paris, where it will enter service with Europe Airpost in support of the French Post Office.
- MINT Software Systems in Kiel, Germany, announced a new partnership agreement with Atlas Air Inc., which is based in Harrison, N.Y. This agreement includes the acquisition of the training management software MINT TMS that Atlas Air will mainly use for Federal Aviation Administration reporting.
- A month after Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines, the Airbus Corporate Foundation coordinated a fourth flight to the Philippines along with its partners, Philippine Airlines, Action Contre la Faim, Aviation Sans Frontières and Humedica. A Philippine Airlines A330, with four doctors and one nurse and loaded with 5.6 tonnes of medical supplies, food and water sanitation equipment, took off from Toulouse, France, and landed in Manila.
